Ignition Interlock Devices
An Ignition Interlock Devices is a breath alcohol detection device that is professionally installed into a vehicle. Ignition Interlock Devices prevent an alcohol impaired driver from starting the vehivle. Durring operation of the vehicle, retests are periodically required. The Ignition Interlock system records dates, times, results, engine runs and engine offs. This data is provided to the authorities and used to determine compliance with the Ignition Interlock program.
No. The Ignition Interlock Device will not shut off the engine, or stop the vehicle in its tracks. If a retest fails, or if a retest is ignored, a violation will be recorded. The cars horn may sound and the vehicles lights may flash until a breath test is passed or the driver turns off the engine.
The Interlock Ignition Device will allow the driver to restart the engine within 2 minutes of killing the engine without another breath test.
The Dräger Ignition Interlock Deviceuses electrochemical fuel cell technologies which are alcohol specific. The Ignition Interlock Device will not show positive alcohol results for non alcohol pollutants.
The Ignition Interlock Device will register alcohol if the mouthwash has alcohol in it. Dräger and SafeStart of Louisiana advise Interlock customers not to eat, drink or smoke for at least 5 minutes before the test. Do not use mouthwash for at least 15 minutes before taking the breathalyzer test.
Yes, however there is no way of determining that you were not the operator of the vehicle. You are solely responsible for everything the Ignition Interlock Device records. This means you will be responsible for any consequences that may arise if another operator is drinking.
SafeStart of Louisiana will monitor the Ignition Interlock Device every eight weeks. These routine monitoring and calibration appointments will take approximately 15 minutes.
