Can someone besides the driver take the breathalyzer test to start the car?

Yes. A non-compliant user may ask that another, non-intoxicated person take the breathalyzer test. The Ignition Interlock Device does not positively identify the driver. The retest feature, however, requires subsequent random breath tests during operation of the vehicle, and shortly after the engine starts. In addition the breath sample must meet the volume specifications and be presented in a unique manner. Incorrect presentation to the breathalyzer test will be recorded by the Ignition Interlock Device.

What if you need repair work done on the vehicle with the Ignition Interlock Device?

You Should inform SafeStart of Louisiana prior to having the vehicle worked on and present a receipt at the next monthly appointment. Anytime the battery is disconnected due to service work, the Ignition Interlock customer must bring in a repair receipt to the next monthly service appointment.
